Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed.
Every morning a lion wakes up.
It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death.
It doesn't matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle.
When the sun comes up, you better start running.

It doesn't matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle.

The Alarm rings and you snooze it over and over again until you realise that time is running out to wake up and get ready for office. You run to your bathroom, hurriedly get dressed up and start running to your workplace. On your way, it doesn't take much time to realise that this is another adventurous journey to your office with your vehicle decelerated by gazillions of potholes and you race against zillions of office goers in their bikes, shuttles and cars. After you reach office, you run to the canteen to feed your pot-belly before you reach your cube. No sooner you start checking your mails, than you find the sentry called "boss" waiting for your status update. No matter how much you work, your boss will never be satisfied and reprimand you. The irony is that the more you work, the more your boss will make you work. After some chiding, your boss reminds you of your deadlines for the millionth time and then you run with your codes and debuggers again. And this way you keep running till your release day, before a new activity waits behind your back to make you run again. Thus, the running continues without a finish line.
But have you ever wondered, what are you running for? Well, if everyone is running, then isn't there supposed to be a reason for it? You ain't no Forrest Gump, are you? Then what could be the reason? A better pay, a nicer lifestyle? Yes? No? A little pondering tells me that all of us are probably running towards achieving a common goal. A goal which aims at the holistic development of the human society. No matter what field we work on, no matter what product or services we offer, we are all aiming at making a better tomorrow - be it a better technology or an improved service. It is a different issue that while participating in this race we are spoiling the environment in some form or the other, but that is the price we pay for it. And this is the answer that I could unravel about the rat race that kicked off On The Origin Of Species (Remember Darwin?).
Any second thoughts to this? Introspect, and let me know.
